Hot water can be delivered in a variety of ways - from solar, electric or gas energy sources. The storage units can be installed indoors or outdoors and vary in size: Electric – 25 to 400 litres, Gas – 90 to 185 litres.
Instantaneous hot water units are relatively new and have the advantage of being small (16 to 24 litres capacity) and heat only the water you actually need for a shower, bath, dishwasher etc.
Compare the various tariffs and incentive deals offered by the energy authorities to see if gas or electricity suits your budget and lifestyle. As a rule of thumb, a 3 or 4 bedroom home housing three or more people will need a 250 to 400 litre hot water unit (electric) or a 170 to 185 litre gas unit. Smaller homes and units with one or two occupants should find a 250 litre unit (or less) suitable.
